Title: mai WIP
Post by: mai on November 03, 2009, 04:52:02 PM
Commodore Amiga - Games - [ADF] (TOSEC-v2009-11-01_CM)
Usually i could upload WIP dat to FTP, but i need some info before. ???

So, what i have done until now:
I have checked every single disk Letters O - Z and if necessary corrected or improved.
I have fully matched(Letters A - Z) crack group names and abbreviations with current PandMonium database.

But i have moved and also completely removed a lot of sets and this could be the problem.
Now i want to know, if i have to explain, for every single set, why i have moved/removed?

Let me begin with the sets, which i have completely removed:

As yo can see, there are 22 disks.
Now, what to do?
Meanwhile, after i have spoken to "TKaos"(and he has different opinion) i know, that it is probably not my decision to remove without a plausible reason.
Generally i can tell you, its garbage, in most cases, i am not able to identify the disk.
Please tell me about.

Hi TKaos mai  ;D,

nice to see your work here too, like you said i guess you need to give a bit more feedback on why you defend those sets should be moved (to which dat) or removed (to where), removing sets needs of course to have a good explanation because we have to know what was the problem and what are they after all, i don't know much about the system but will try to give you a better opinion when you explain a bit more.

I can give you some examples of moved/removed sets:
- gorski removed/moved some sets from sinclair that were in fact sam coupe sets (don't know how they got there)
- i think TKaos and/or any other member also removed some sets because they were just garbage (really), some xex sets that were in fact just other images converted with tons of files missing and or just patchs and so on.

Usually other renamers can give you a better opinion than mine, from looking at that list i see 2 or 3 really strange sets with really small size and all the others with 880kb, mostly alternates, maybe someone like andreas from EAB can help you out finding why they are alt? :P

(just removed one of your duplicated topics :))

Thanks, PandMonium,

Because of 2 sets, Andreas wrote in EAB Forum:

I suggest to DELETE the following two ones:

Trivia Game Show (1990)(Impressions)[h FLT](crc 7685D765)
53 KB packed; this is maybe a patch disk

Thomas the Tank Engine (1992)(Alternative)[cr QTX][t +2 Metal Force](crc 9F5F5BC1)
11264 bytes unpacked; this appears to be a trainer patch disk!!

Doesn't look broken to me at all: BUT it must be used as DMS and patched onto the QTX scene original using the DMS tool in overwrite/update mode!

.....by the way, you can call me "mai"

hi mai (sorry just got back, tired, from work and will be leaving soon to play football :P),

well at least with those 2 i guess you are right, maybe they don't fit in the games - ADF datfile, i don't know everything about other dats so maybe idoru or other guy can give a suggestion on removing them or moving to some other datfile where they would fit (if that exists :P)

keep up the good work :)

Omicron Conspiracy v1.0 (1990-10-19)(Image Works)(Disk 2 of 2)[cr Angels - Defjam][u][b errdms]

This disk is absolutly useless, its underdumped (154kb),the disk is (of course)not recognized by AmigaDOS, unlike other "Omicron Conspiracy v1.0" disk 2 sets.

Overlord (1994-12-09)(Virgin)(Disk 2 of 3)[a]

This disk its more than likely not a Overlord disk 2, i am not able to identify this disk, its not a DOS disk, unlike other "Overlord" disks 2.

Pac-Mania (1988)(Grandslam)[b errdms]

This disk has no Bootblock, game dont start, its useless.

Perihelion - The Prophecy (1993)(Psygnosis)(Disk 3 of 5)[cr PDX][a]

Its more than likely not a "Perihelion - The Prophecy" disk 3, its also not an other "Perihelion - The Prophecy" disk, i am not able to identify.

Pinball BrainDamage (1998)(APC & TCP)(AGA)(Disk 1 of 5)(Boot)[b]

Its a nearly emty disk, no "Pinball BrainDamage" files on disk.

Pinball Wizard v1.0 (1987)(Kingsoft)[b overwritten files]

You can see [ b] descriptor, there are no files on disk anymore, game dont start. Ok, probably you can restore the files, if you have the knowledge.

Skidoo (1989)(Inference)[b errdms]

Ok, i was able to identify, it was a little bit difficult, because game crashs, before any screen is visible.
It is "Harricana - Raid International Motoneige - Quebec-Canada 90 (1990)(Loriciel)(fr)[cr Sprint][h SR][b errdms]"
Then i will reinsert this disk, although this disk is also useless.

Space War (1990)(Odyssey)(Disk 2 of 2)

Seems to be a totally destroyed "Space War" disk 2, its not a DOS disk anymore, unlike the other disk2 set.

Special Forces (1992-02-10)(MicroProse)(Disk 3 of 3)(B)[cr SR][a]

Its a Save disk, exists a dat for Amiga Save disks?

Speedway Manager 2 (1994)(Mirage Media)(PL)(Disk 2 of 2)[cr Picco][a]

No DOS disk, unlike all other "Speedway Manager 2" disk 2 sets.
Seems totally useless, because half of the disk is filled with string "Hit the programmer".

Subwar 2050 (1995)(MicroProse)(AGA)(M3)(Disk 1 of 2)[cr PSG][a3]
Subwar 2050 (1995)(MicroProse)(AGA)(M3)(Disk 2 of 2)[cr PSG][a3]

Many unknown files on disk, it seems to be wrong installed.

Any comment or help would be nice.

hey mai,
good details you found about those sets, for some you could at least add more info to the bad dump flags :P

About this i can only give you my opinion but you should wait for other renamers opinion and specially idoru since we are talking about Amiga dats, like you said what we have there mostly is just "garbage", we say this because they are sets that have errors, mostly to the point of not being useful at all.

Well, what we have to remember is the main goal of our project, to catalog / create dbs about all sets that float / floated around, so anyone can use this information to identify sets. If they had a bad set with some error they would know, off course there are sets which are just garbage and i personally doubt they started floating around a lot since they don't even start (probably someone just dumped them BAD / with serious errors but even then submitted / added them to the dats so they are now spread around the world). This is probably true not only for Amiga but for other systems too (Nintendo and some others i suppose).
Anyway they are now in the dats and floating around so just remove it may not be the better option, just wait for others opinion too.

Off course all these sets aren't useful at all but i suppose we should provide a way to have dats with excluded flags (for example without bad dumps) for anyone who just wants to catalog specific sets :)

Well as PandMonium already said, TOSEC is about collecting info about all files that are floating around on the web and it's always the way I've seen it.
Even if the files are like you say "useless" they are still usefull as information.
Of course some of the the *.dms disks can't be just transfered to *.adf, it won't work and I don't see a problem in creating a DAT for these disks.
Title: Re: mai WIP
Post by: PandMonium on November 05, 2009, 10:52:43 AM
I think so too but off course there must be or there should be a limit (not easy to define, should be the renamer to decide i guess :S) about what IS an image for some system, i just say this because i can create a stupid file filled with garbage and .adf extension and add it to the dat as a (really) bad dump :P
...and there are other ways of creating new stupid alts or bad dumps so i guess if i was a renamer i wouldn't be adding (or at least give priority to new unidentified stuff) a ton of alts and bad dumps just waiting for them to go away :P
Title: Re: mai WIP
Post by: TKaos on November 05, 2009, 12:13:32 PM
Well, as a renamer you're not forced to add anything to the DAT, I myself would only add max. 2-6 [a] also would only add bad dumps if there's no other clean dump of the rom because I rather have a bad version of a game than no version at all.
Title: Re: mai WIP
Post by: Aral on November 06, 2009, 08:00:49 AM
Because of the fragile nature of the floppy disk there will be times when dumps will be bad.  IMO this shit should not be in any TOSEC dat.  Also if a disk has a virus and there is another copy of the same game and intro these should be removed also.

With the amiga games adf i believe there should be only allowed to have a maximum of one [a] for each game / crack variant to eliminate the amount of fat that dat currently has.

Maybe an idea with the amiga - game [adf] dat would be to start converting scene dms files to adf and have a [!] system like the iso's.  Then 2 people would be required to validate an adf and no more would be allowed after that point.  The reason i say use scene dms files is they are the only clean amiga files in existence.  No-one has modified or saved on these releases to change the crc and shai1 and converting these releases to adf is a very quick process.

As for finding archives of scene adf's that will not be a problem as most amiga nuts have GB's of dms files hidden away on HDD's and cd's.

Hello,

I have uploaded to my private folder on TOSEC FTP:
Commodore Amiga - Games - [ADF] (TOSEC-v2009-12-15_CM)
I have also uploaded archive with all txt-files, which i have made while renaming, so we have always a history of changes.

I mai,
first of all good work and congratulations because i've found 0 errors in the dat, which is great for your first try with a dat so huge :)
only one note, we use the old cmp format, not the xml one so if you can please generate a new one selecting "Deprecated" instead of XML in dir2dat screen.

Thanks for pointing me, now i have created and uploaded dat in "Deprecated" format.

don't know if you saw it already but here you have a bit more:
just a small note, when you generate dats please clear unused fields in cmp so they don't appear in dat header like:
email "-insert email-"
homepage "-insert homepage-"
url "-insert url-"

ERROR - unknown trainer group - + 4 TRSI (set: Prehistoric Tale, A (1990)(Thalion)[cr TRSI][t + 4 TRSI] / dat: Commodore Amiga - Games - [ADF])
extra space in trainer flag.

ERROR - unknown trainer group - Ache + Extensors (set: Sky Cabbie (1991)(Kingsoft)(Disk 1 of 2)[cr SR][t +5 Ache + Extensors] / dat: Commodore Amiga - Games - [ADF])
ERROR - unknown trainer group - Ache + Extensors (set: Under Pressure (1991)(Electronic Zoo)[cr CSL][t +13 Ache + Extensors] / dat: Commodore Amiga - Games - [ADF])
change " + " to " - "

unkown baddump descriptors: "checksum eror", "checksum errror"
that are errors i suppose :)

First i wish you a merry X-mas.
Thanks for pointing me, of course this are simple typos, it may happen, if i check thousands and thousands sets.
Have you fixed this errrrrrrrrors? ;)
checksum eror
checksum errrror
is of course
checksum error

Thank you for your hard work and for a possible release, if it'll ever happen  :D

Frohe Weihnachten to you too :)
I just fixed the header part because i don't know when you could do it.

The other errors i didn't fix it but if i need the dat and you haven't done it i will do it too, you just have to take care to fix it in your working dat too so they don't appear again.

As for a possible release, we are doing our best and hope someday it will be a reality, we will see ;D

(edited your post because you had a small mistake for now :P)

after scanning through mai's new amiga games dat, can someone confirm where the below 80 (!) files went & why...  filenames are correct as per my dat of 2009-09-04 - which was the confirmed last dat before mai's work.

dropping files should only be a very last resort, and anything that needed moving to another dat should have been done in the same release

Hello [IDORU]

I can confirm, that i have most of this sets moved to different dat, but its not included until now, because i am not able to rebuilt the dats without having the comlpete ADF files, maybe there is a way to rebuilt without owning the ADFs, but i dont know, how to do.
You can be sure, nothing is lost, tell me what to do.
I have also completely removed some sets, i have carefully checked the sets and it ended with removing the sets, because the sets contains nothing or really garbage.
I think, you should trust me in doing this job, i have checked every single disk and compared with various sources, no one has done this before, so the current release is a real improvment and progress.

by the way

Happy new year to all TOSEC members.

Hey mai, I'm not questioning your work & efforts which are appreciated - I'm asking as 80 files is a lot to drop from a dat without information - a few of them were mentioned earlier in this thread but not the majority.  Anything that moved to another dat should've been done at the same time as the new games dat, and it should only be a very last resort to remove something completely.  This also applies to a few other dats (ZX Spectrum/N64), not just you.

IMHO, the release shouldn't have gone out until all the files that were moving to other dats were re-included & those that were definitely being removed were listed but it seems some people had to get a release out & couldn't be bothered to wait until I returned from vacation. But I digress...

It's a simple process to edit dats in any text editor that preserves formatting (Notepad/UltraEdit for example, don't use something like Word), but if you let me know what moved where & the new names I can easily do it for you.

Hey all, i'm back.
I also agree with idoru for the removed setfiles, should have been moved right away to the new dats or people could loose them.
Anyway that already happened and things should be fixed now to be included in the next release, some mistakes also seemed to happen in some other datfiles too. You can just edit dats in text editors and do it, be careful because you have to make sure you get hashes and sizes and so on correct (if it is moving you just need to copy / paste it), i would recommend you not to use notepad with big dats because it will be really slow, ultraedit is great for example.

edit: idoru, i just edited your post because code bbtag is probably broken up but i haven't had time to fix it and php one works :P

Hello [IDORU], and sorry for delay,
I would be very grateful, if someone could do the job (editing the different dats), you have probably more experiences to do this.
What is the best way, to let you know, which sets needs moving to different dat.
I think i can create (small) dats an add as attachment, right?
If so, i will upload in a few days, then i have finished checking Letter "J".

sure, mini-dats for the files moved out of Games will be fine - that way the files will also preserve any namechanges you made to them - easier than making a list too ;)  I can then add the files to the "main" dats & send back to you to double check you're happy.

Thanks ;)

Don't know where you prefer it posted and didn't want to create a new topic just with these, if you want me to move this somewhere else like the Kodoichi topic or a new topic just say it :P

Hello [IDORU],

I have added archive with dat files inside, so you know which sets needs moving.

Some Notes:
If you apply the changes to different dats, then the relevant dat probably needs additional editing.

Word Construction Set (1993)(Lascelles)(Disk 1 of 3)[cr SKR]
>>>>
Word Construction Set (1992)(Lascelles)(Disk 1 of 3)[cr SR][a]
crc 3607d304
I  would rename to [a], and i dont know, if you plan to rename group "SKR" to valid "SR", i have done so in ADF Games dat.

Attention:
Lord of Unicorns (1990)(Unicorn Software)(Disk 1 of 4)[cr QTX]
crc 0e4f48b8
probably needs renaming (disks 2 - 4 too)

done ;)  the updated dats are uploaded into your folder on the ftp if you want to double check them

couple of more questions though :-

1)  can you make an interim Games dat so that we don't have duplicate files that are in 2 "current" sets (as i noticed that some of the files are obviously due to be removed from a new update to the Games dat) ?

2) can you confirm the files below have definitely been removed ?

Code: [Select]
Omicron Conspiracy v1.0 (1990-10-19)(Image Works)(Disk 2 of 2)[cr Angels - Defjam][u][b errdms]
Perihelion - The Prophecy (1993)(Psygnosis)(Disk 3 of 5)[cr PDX][a]

Trivia Game Show (1990)(Impressions)[h FLT][u][b]
Wings (1990)(Cinemaware)[unknown - Reel 3]

3) where did these 2 files come from that were to be added to Games - Public Domain?  ;)

Code: [Select]

Neighbours - The Adventure (1992)(VideoBionics)(Disk 2 of 2)

Ok, here are some info.

Rox (1990)(Gremlin)[h CLS][Action Replay freezefile]
Rox (1990)(Gremlin)[h CLS][t +1 Aurora][Action Replay freezefile]
I have re-inserted in "Commodore Amiga - Games - [ADF]", because its probably not suitable for any different dat.

I have re-inserted in "Commodore Amiga - Games - [ADF]", i have checked closer and set sets should be there.

Meanwhile i have also removed this 2 sets:

Reason: Its not an ADF, its an lha archive.

King's Quest V - Absence Makes the Heart Go Yonder v1.000.000 (1991)(Sierra)(Disk 7 of 8)(6)[v Saddam 1]

Reason: No files on  disk anymore, that means the disk is useless, i also know, thats probably possible to restore the files, if you have the knowlege, then do so, maybe you have a disk with excact same crc32 like a existing one.

This evening i will upload UPDATED dat "Commodore Amiga - Games - [ADF] (TOSEC-v2010-01-12_CM)"

where did these 2 files come from that were to be added to Games - Public Domain?  ;)

Reason: Title changed, Year changed, publisher changed.
Note: Moved to Public Domain.

Neighbours - The Adventure (1992)(VideoBionics)(Disk 2 of 2)
Reason: Title changed, Year changed, publisher changed.
Note: Moved to Public Domain.

Those files weren't in the Games dat though.

Both "Commodore Amiga - Games - [ADF] (TOSEC-v2009-12-16_CM)" & "Commodore Amiga - Games - [ADF] (TOSEC-v2010-01-12_CM)" only have these 2 Neighbours files in :-

Neighbours (1991)(Impulze)[cr SR].adf (CRC32 cc15097b)
Neighbours (1991)(Impulze)[cr SR][t +4 LGD].adf (CRC32 0fcb0f90)

That was why I'd asked where they came from, as I couldn't find them to move them from Games into Games - Public Domain.  After a bit more investigation, those checksums appear on files in the "Commodore Amiga - Collections - Berliner Spielekiste" dat :-

Berliner Spielekiste 486 (19xx)(Berlin PD)(DE)(PD)(Disk 1 of 2)[BSKCD] (CRC32 5aea1f60 )
Berliner Spielekiste 486 (19xx)(Berlin PD)(DE)(PD)(Disk 2 of 2)[BSKCD] (CRC32 6b1a0064 )

Do you want me to leave them as above in the Berliner Spielekiste dat or remove them & include them in "Commodore Amiga - Games - Public Domain" as Neighbours - The Adventure (1992)(VideoBionics)(Disk 1 of 2) / (Disc 2 of 2) ?

re. the dropped files, the reasons for removal are all fine - just 1 file I haven't seen listed: Wings (1990)(Cinemaware)[unknown - Reel 3] (CRC32 9c6159e6).

Full list as of now is :-

Code: [Select]
Kick Off 3 (1994)(Anco)(AGA)[cr DLM][h GIN][o][HD]
Reason: It's a lha archive

King's Quest V - Absence Makes the Heart Go Yonder v1.000.000 (1991)(Sierra)(Disk 7 of 8)(6)[v Saddam 1]
Reason: No files on  disk anymore

Omicron Conspiracy v1.0 (1990-10-19)(Image Works)(Disk 2 of 2)[cr Angels - Defjam][u][b errdms]
Reason: its underdumped (154kb),the disk is (of course)not recognized by AmigaDOS, unlike other "Omicron Conspiracy v1.0" disk 2 sets.

Perihelion - The Prophecy (1993)(Psygnosis)(Disk 3 of 5)[cr PDX][a]
Reason: Its more than likely not a "Perihelion - The Prophecy" disk 3, its also not an other "Perihelion - The Prophecy" disk, i am not able to identify.

Pinball BrainDamage (1998)(APC & TCP)(AGA)(Disk 1 of 5)(Boot)[b]
Reason: Its a nearly emty disk, no "Pinball BrainDamage" files on disk.

Pinball Wizard v1.0 (1987)(Kingsoft)[b overwritten files]
Reason: No files on disk anymore.

Space War (1990)(Odyssey)(Disk 2 of 2)
Reason: Seems to be a totally destroyed "Space War" disk 2, its not a DOS disk anymore, unlike the other disk2 set.

Speedway Manager 2 (1994)(Mirage Media)(PL)(Disk 2 of 2)[cr Picco][a]
Reason: No DOS disk, unlike all other "Speedway Manager 2" disk 2 sets, half of the disk is filled with string "Hit the programmer".

Thomas the Tank Engine (1992)(Alternative)[cr QTX][t +2 Metal Force][u][b]
Reason: appears to be a trainer patch disk, must be used as DMS

Trivia Game Show (1990)(Impressions)[h FLT][u][b]
Reason: maybe a patch disk

Wings (1990)(Cinemaware)[unknown - Reel 3]
Reason: ?

Neighbours - The Adventure (1992)(VideoBionics)(Disk 1 of 2)
Neighbours - The Adventure (1992)(VideoBionics)(Disk 2 of 2)

This 2 sets were in:
Commodore Amiga - Games - [ADF] (TOSEC-v2009-09-04_CM)
This is the dat(not created by me), which was the source of my renamig job.
Then i would let stay this sets in:
Commodore Amiga - Collections - Berliner Spielekiste, dont move to "PD".

Wings (1990)(Cinemaware)[unknown - Reel 3]
Removed, because its an emty disk, maybe a self created Savedisk, i dont know, anyway its not suitable for:
Commodore Amiga - Games - [ADF]

Again, thanks for your efforts. :)

I don't know what happened there then, nor how they got from Games to Berliner Spielekiste (as that dat wasn't updated in that time period).  Anyway, after loading them & a quick look through a hexeditor I'm going to put them into Games - Public Domain & remove from Berliner Spielekiste.

I have uploaded new dat to my FTP folder, so far i have completed checking Letters G - Z.
Again there are some sets, which needs moving to different dat.
I have created mini dat files and will add as attachment, unfortunalety i have not the updated dats anymore(created by IDORU).
@IDORU: Can you please grab the mini dats and apply the changes.
Meanwhile there are another 3 sets, which i have completely removed:

Quote
GuyRoux Manager - Planete Foot (1993)(Domark)(FR)(Disk 2 of 2)(Saison)[cr Interpol]

Its garbage, no "GuyRoux Manager" data on disk.

Its garbage.

Following the discussion earlier regarding SHA-1 in Amiga DATs that you do not work on, I think it would help if I re-DATed all the older Amiga DATs so ALL the DATs include SHA-1. I have 99% of the files already, so this isn't a big deal.

I am missing some of your/EAB's newly added images though. Can you provide these? See attached.

FYI re Commodore Amiga - Games - [ADF] (TOSEC-v2012-07-02_CM):
"Wings (1990)(Cinemaware)(Disk 1 of 2)(Reel 1)[cr SR][h Frozen Wave Cult -  Full Evil].adf" > "Wings (1990)(Cinemaware)(Disk 1 of 2)(Reel 1)[cr SR][h Frozen Wave Cult - Full Evil].adf"

Yeah most people find it odd, i don't quite like the taste and simply don't need it.
It is probably related to the fact that i can control my work schedule too and try to sleep well every day, thus don't need it for that purpose. Actually some friends make fun of me because i've never ever drank a coffee*, tasted a bit of those nespresso ones and that's all. (but i do like cakes and icecreams with coffee flavour).

*) Coffee here is this, not those big, expensive starbucks cups :P
