mai WIP

Commodore Amiga - Games - [ADF] (TOSEC-v2009-11-01_CM)
Usually i could upload WIP dat to FTP, but i need some info before. ???

So, what i have done until now:
I have checked every single disk Letters O - Z and if necessary corrected or improved.
I have fully matched(Letters A - Z) crack group names and abbreviations with current PandMonium database.

But i have moved and also completely removed a lot of sets and this could be the problem.
Now i want to know, if i have to explain, for every single set, why i have moved/removed?

Let me begin with the sets, which i have completely removed:
Quote

As yo can see, there are 22 disks.
Now, what to do?
Meanwhile, after i have spoken to "TKaos"(and he has different opinion) i know, that it is probably not my decision to remove without a plausible reason.
Generally i can tell you, its garbage, in most cases, i am not able to identify the disk.
Please tell me about.

Hi TKaos mai  ;D,

nice to see your work here too, like you said i guess you need to give a bit more feedback on why you defend those sets should be moved (to which dat) or removed (to where), removing sets needs of course to have a good explanation because we have to know what was the problem and what are they after all, i don't know much about the system but will try to give you a better opinion when you explain a bit more.

I can give you some examples of moved/removed sets:
- gorski removed/moved some sets from sinclair that were in fact sam coupe sets (don't know how they got there)
- i think TKaos and/or any other member also removed some sets because they were just garbage (really), some xex sets that were in fact just other images converted with tons of files missing and or just patchs and so on.

Usually other renamers can give you a better opinion than mine, from looking at that list i see 2 or 3 really strange sets with really small size and all the others with 880kb, mostly alternates, maybe someone like andreas from EAB can help you out finding why they are alt? :P

(just removed one of your duplicated topics :))

Thanks, PandMonium,

Because of 2 sets, Andreas wrote in EAB Forum:

Quote
I suggest to DELETE the following two ones:

Trivia Game Show (1990)(Impressions)[h FLT](crc 7685D765)
53 KB packed; this is maybe a patch disk

Thomas the Tank Engine (1992)(Alternative)[cr QTX][t +2 Metal Force](crc 9F5F5BC1)
11264 bytes unpacked; this appears to be a trainer patch disk!!

Doesn't look broken to me at all: BUT it must be used as DMS and patched onto the QTX scene original using the DMS tool in overwrite/update mode!

.....by the way, you can call me "mai"

hi mai (sorry just got back, tired, from work and will be leaving soon to play football :P),

well at least with those 2 i guess you are right, maybe they don't fit in the games - ADF datfile, i don't know everything about other dats so maybe idoru or other guy can give a suggestion on removing them or moving to some other datfile where they would fit (if that exists :P)

keep up the good work :)

Omicron Conspiracy v1.0
(1990-10-19)(Image Works)(Disk 2 of 2)[cr Angels Defjam][u][b errdms]

This disk is absolutly useless, its underdumped (154kb),the disk is (of course)not recognized by AmigaDOS, unlike other "Omicron Conspiracy v1.0" disk 2 sets.

Overlord
(1994-12-09)(Virgin)(Disk 2 of 3)[a]

This disk its more than likely not a Overlord disk 2, i am not able to identify this disk, its not a DOS disk, unlike other "Overlord" disks 2.

Pac
-Mania (1988)(Grandslam)[b errdms]

This disk has no Bootblock, game dont start, its useless.

Perihelion
The Prophecy (1993)(Psygnosis)(Disk 3 of 5)[cr PDX][a]

Its more than likely not a "Perihelion - The Prophecy" disk 3, its also not an other "Perihelion - The Prophecy" disk, i am not able to identify.

Pinball BrainDamage
(1998)(APC TCP)(AGA)(Disk 1 of 5)(Boot)[b]

Its a nearly emty disk, no "Pinball BrainDamage" files on disk.

Pinball Wizard v1.0
(1987)(Kingsoft)[b overwritten files]

You can see [ b] descriptor, there are no files on disk anymore, game dont start. Ok, probably you can restore the files, if you have the knowledge.

Skidoo
(1989)(Inference)[b errdms]

Ok, i was able to identify, it was a little bit difficult, because game crashs, before any screen is visible.
It is "Harricana - Raid International Motoneige - Quebec-Canada 90 (1990)(Loriciel)(fr)[cr Sprint][h SR][b errdms]"
Then i will reinsert this disk, although this disk is also useless.

Space War
(1990)(Odyssey)(Disk 2 of 2)

Seems to be a totally destroyed "Space War" disk 2, its not a DOS disk anymore, unlike the other disk2 set.

Special Forces
(1992-02-10)(MicroProse)(Disk 3 of 3)(B)[cr SR][a]

Its a Save disk, exists a dat for Amiga Save disks?

Speedway Manager 2
(1994)(Mirage Media)(PL)(Disk 2 of 2)[cr Picco][a]

No DOS disk, unlike all other "Speedway Manager 2" disk 2 sets.
Seems totally useless, because half of the disk is filled with string "Hit the programmer".

Subwar 2050
(1995)(MicroProse)(AGA)(M3)(Disk 1 of 2)[cr PSG][a3]
Subwar 2050 (1995)(MicroProse)(AGA)(M3)(Disk 2 of 2)[cr PSG][a3]

Many unknown files on disk, it seems to be wrong installed.

Any comment or help would be nice.

hey mai,
good details you found about those sets, for some you could at least add more info to the bad dump flags :P

About this i can only give you my opinion but you should wait for other renamers opinion and specially idoru since we are talking about Amiga dats, like you said what we have there mostly is just "garbage", we say this because they are sets that have errors, mostly to the point of not being useful at all.

Well, what we have to remember is the main goal of our project, to catalog / create dbs about all sets that float / floated around, so anyone can use this information to identify sets. If they had a bad set with some error they would know, off course there are sets which are just garbage and i personally doubt they started floating around a lot since they don't even start (probably someone just dumped them BAD / with serious errors but even then submitted / added them to the dats so they are now spread around the world). This is probably true not only for Amiga but for other systems too (Nintendo and some others i suppose).
Anyway they are now in the dats and floating around so just remove it may not be the better option, just wait for others opinion too.

Off course all these sets aren't useful at all but i suppose we should provide a way to have dats with excluded flags (for example without bad dumps) for anyone who just wants to catalog specific sets :)

Well as PandMonium already said, TOSEC is about collecting info about all files that are floating around on the web and it's always the way I've seen it.
Even if the files are like you say "useless" they are still usefull as information.
Of course some of the the *.dms disks can't be just transfered to *.adf, it won't work and I don't see a problem in creating a DAT for these disks.

I think so too but off course there must be or there should be a limit (not easy to define, should be the renamer to decide i guess :S) about what IS an image for some system, i just say this because i can create a stupid file filled with garbage and .adf extension and add it to the dat as a (really) bad dump :P
...and there are other ways of creating new stupid alts or bad dumps so i guess if i was a renamer i wouldn't be adding (or at least give priority to new unidentified stuff) a ton of alts and bad dumps just waiting for them to go away :P

Well, as a renamer you're not forced to add anything to the DAT, I myself would only add max. 2-6 [a] also would only add bad dumps if there's no other clean dump of the rom because I rather have a bad version of a game than no version at all.

Because of the fragile nature of the floppy disk there will be times when dumps will be bad.  IMO this shit should not be in any TOSEC dat.  Also if a disk has a virus and there is another copy of the same game and intro these should be removed also.

With the amiga games adf i believe there should be only allowed to have a maximum of one [a] for each game / crack variant to eliminate the amount of fat that dat currently has.

Maybe an idea with the amiga - game [adf] dat would be to start converting scene dms files to adf and have a [!] system like the iso's.  Then 2 people would be required to validate an adf and no more would be allowed after that point.  The reason i say use scene dms files is they are the only clean amiga files in existence.  No-one has modified or saved on these releases to change the crc and shai1 and converting these releases to adf is a very quick process.

As for finding archives of scene adf's that will not be a problem as most amiga nuts have GB's of dms files hidden away on HDD's and cd's.

Hello,

I have uploaded to my private folder on TOSEC FTP:
Commodore Amiga - Games - [ADF] (TOSEC-v2009-12-15_CM)
I have also uploaded archive with all txt-files, which i have made while renaming, so we have always a history of changes.

I mai,
first of all good work and congratulations because i've found 0 errors in the dat, which is great for your first try with a dat so huge :)
only one note, we use the old cmp format, not the xml one so if you can please generate a new one selecting "Deprecated" instead of XML in dir2dat screen.
