Cassiel WIP (v2009-12-27-v2011-01-19)
« on: January 02, 2010, 09:18:21 AM »
A couple of questions/things for you if you please.... :P

1) Please get rid of these Promotional dats, there's no need for them & they look quite silly.  Everything is already flagged as demos so they don't need there own dat with 5 files inside.  Already a few people have made it aware that they've pointed at them & laughed, unsurprisingly IMO.

2) What did you use to convert Memory Manager v1.0b (1999)(Magillicutty, R. Bubba)(PAL)(PD)[h] in N64 Applications ?  I cannot recreate the checksum when converting from the only copy I can find online/other dats.  Also, out of interest, why were a couple of the files removed from the last dat? Unix SRAM Upload Utility v1.0 (1997)(Madman)(PD), View N64 Test Program (199x)(-)(PD)

3) SNES.  Are all the hacks really un-nameable?  [h271] is getting silly.  I had a very quick look & loaded a few of the Super Mario World hacks at random...

Super Mario World (1991)(Nintendo)(US)[h205]  --> Super Mario Extreme (2004)(Clockworkz)(US)[h][Super Mario World]
Super Mario World (1991)(Nintendo)(US)[h236]  --> Super Mario World - The New Lands (2003)(DarkMatt)(US)[h][Super Mario World]
Super Mario World (1991)(Nintendo)(US)[h271]  --> Super Mario World (1991)(Nintendo)(US)[h HH]

Also games that are flagged as (PD) i believe should be in a dedicated Public Domain dat to be consistent.  The games dats should be limited to commercial games.

In the Sega Pico - Educational DAT:
All versions of "A Year At Pooh Corner" need to be renamed to "Year At Pooh Corner, A".

Appreciated, but did create it after some thought. Basically, having an issue with some promotional/demo carts that don’t really belong anywhere else (and I know I have more coming up to add later). Example: SMS/MKIII – “TecToy Christmas 1992 Promo Cartridge (1992)(Sega - TecToy)(BR)” – this is basically a digital static advert on cart bundled in Brazil with SMS. It’s not a game, nor really a demo or app either. Toyed with using ‘sampler’ like you use in ISO, but its not that either (not like you actual play anything or see any footage).

Suggestions? (Bear in mind this isn’t isolated to just this dump....). Promo DAT was the best solution I could think of for these awkward dumps.

Memory Manager v1.0b (1999)(Magillicutty, R. Bubba)(PAL)(PD)[h]
AFAIR it was sent to me with a few other images. We already had the others in DAT, so added it in. Looking at it in hex editor compared to other, it looks like it could be a load of crap anyway though.....

Unix SRAM Upload Utility v1.0 (1997)(Madman)(PD)
Took it out since needed to double check something (was basically redoing N64 apps, fw, demos), and forgot to add it back in. My bad, will get it back in ASAP.

View N64 Test Program (199x)(-)(PD)
Now ‘Lem's Crap Test (199x)(Lem)(PD)’, was wrongly named/in wrong DAT.

3) SNES.  Are all the hacks really un-nameable?  [h271] is getting silly.  I had a very quick look & loaded a few of the Super Mario World hacks at random...

Agreed. But remember I haven’t really worked on this DAT since the last (last) release, other than fixing obvious or new TNC rules/errors. I’m currently sweeping thru the nin/sega/snk dats and adding language flags and will address this at the same time.

Are we definitely having 'A' at the end now? THe current TNC contridicts itself regarding this....

If there is any error somewhere please report :P (may be in pdf file, haven't checked)

Well, my studies run around my computer/internet so is easy to be online to give easy tips like that :P even if i kinda suck at english as my supervisor pointed in my thesis :( anyway need to get back to it because i have the intermediate deadline already this Monday and a lot to do.

Sorry about the pdf, it gives some work to update it so i haven't done it yet but i find it useful because it can have a nice format and is useful to read offline :\

Agreed, Samplers isn't perfect (& not everything in the ISO Samplers dats are "playable") - & I'm also not sure if one of Promotional/Samplers is any better/worse as a name than the other.  Maybe for now we just stick to one of them & see if thoughts come up with anything better.  Law of averages shows that Samplers is "ahead" atm, so you happy with Promotional --> Samplers for the time being ?

Can you take another look at N64 Applications in that case ?  Currently Memory Manager is the sole unavailable TOSEC rom from the entire set.

I have no issue with Promotional -> Samplers, will upload renamed DATs when I get a chance. Though not perfect either, do consider ‘Promotional’ as a category – this is what all these are after all…..

I’ll make sure the image gets disseminated and I’ll get the other added back in.

Will upload these (and some other Sega) DATs hopefully later in the week.
