I said to panda months ago that the db should output XML dats, even though I can't stand the damn things - nowhere near as visually easy to manually edit as the old-style.  I can't see Roman removing the ability to read them though he may remove the ability to create them, but there are many ways of creating CMP dats.

I'm still using TIM for generating DATs and for me it's alot easier and faster than doing it in clrmame.

Well i didn't make it yet because you guys all prefer to use a more 'readable' format, even if XML is readable (one of the goals for XML usage is that), anyway i pretend to implement it one day but didn't finished support for it in tosecdb or my tools because we have never used it before.

So, the idea is to support old/new cmp formats, one more with a lot more info and even a lot more options, it is just not ready yet and will be stopped until i have a bit more time again, for now i want to use my free time to plan changes and to small features i'm asked for (for example yesterday TKaos needed a way to search all dats with a given more info flag).

The 3 main disadvantages of XML dats (that i can see now) are:
a) Less readable for you guys
b) You also need to understand that there are forbidden chars in XML files, so they can't insert manually and html entities instead, one example is ', in an XML file it must be '.
c) Obviously the datfiles sizes will increase, even if marginally.

Ah, but that's where XML editors come in...   ;)

TKoas - my thinking was exactly same as you, but once you start using CMP (and using time saving techniques like saving DAT creation profiles), it works out A LOT quicker.... just need to get used to it.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!

Camputer DATs on my USB key fucked AND 'Readme.txt' fucked.

Camputer DATs on FTP fucked and 'Readme.txt' is fine...

WHAT is going on..... so frustrating. Think I'm going to have to re-check/re-do these carefully. Looks like my USB stick might be corrupting files/random fuck ups!

maybe its time for you to get a new USB key or at least format that one and backup your data :P
this post is just to let you know that "Camputers Lynx - Demos (TOSEC-v2009-10-13_CM).dat" in your wip folder is broken, it ends up with:

Quote
game (
name "Star Rover Lynx User #1 (19xx)(-)"
description "Star Rover Lynx User #1 (19xx)(-)"
   rom (
it can be for many reasons, maybe you got it corrupted or the transfer ended earlier somehow, will check TKaos and Gruby wip dats and then current-wip folder.

also, wherever the hell TKaos posted about Atari 8-bit - they're done & incorporated into current-wip too.

this forum is shite...can't find anything around here...plus there's too many damn thread's (which wouldn't be so much of a problem if the forum software wasn't so useless) that could be combined

Jerry also sent me this dat and i have the original dat that was done by no-intro as an april fools joke back in 2007.  The dat is a good dat with publisher names as these were dragged off the now defunct no-intro database and are 100% correct.  However no-intro at the time never kept the dates hence the dates were all put as 19xx.

Here is the body of the original message on their forum to mark the occasion.  I knew keeping this as a txt file would come in handy one day ;)

Quote
No-Intro and TOSEC are proud to announce the World Domination Project: No-InTrOSEC

The best team from the console/handheld scene, No-Intro, and the best team from the computer/obscure systems scene, TOSEC, will officially merge and make the ultimate team to conquer the entire world.
For this we will adapt all dats to the TOSEC naming convention. To kick-off this historical event we proudly present today the first fully converted release:
Super Nintendo Entertainment System (No-InTrOSEC-v2007-04-01_CM)
Expect the other systems to follow shortly!! :)

If anyone wants the original dat give me a yell and i will forward it ;)

btw heres a little bit more of a twist, just read the entire txt file and stumbled over this ...hahahah

Since you talked about splitting various DATs in another thread I wanted to ask if you came across Dragon 32 & 64 yet.
In the [VDK] DAT are following files:
Blank Disk - 40 Track Double Sided (2003)(-)
Blank Disk - 40 Track Single Sided (2003)(-)
Blank Disk - 80 Track Double Sided (2003)(-)
Blank Disk - 80 Track Single Sided (2003)(-)

I don't really see a point for them to be in those DATs and also the (2003) looks strange to me, maybe you already removed them.
