Why I don't like RomVault

• When starting it for the first time, it asks for your e-mail address. You can type in anything you want, but it''s annoying that it asks you for this at all.
• You can''t change the ROM folder and have to copy everything in the "ROMRoot" folder of the application.
• Clicking on "Update DATs" crashes the program, probably due to wrong user permissions. Not only that, but RomVault sends the error message to the developer without asking you first.

Is RomVault part of the NSA or what? Please fix these things, GordonJ.

Clean install then try again, I personally have none of the issues you listed since probably last year.
Best program for rom collecting/sorting.

Second bullet point isn''t true. You can right-click the "RomVault" node in tree view, then select "Set ROM DIR". In fact, every single ROM folder can be set to a different path that way. It may take a couple of clicks if you have lots of DATs loaded, but you will get the menu eventually

Alright, found out that the crash can be avoided by opening the EXE with admin rights on Windows 7. Now all I need is 7Zip support and I'm starting to like this tool.

I have no idea if it supports 7z (or plans to) but from my small experience RomVault is awesome to easily manage an huge amount of dats like we have here

ATM as plan exists. From the romvault homepage:

"May 23th, 2013, ROMVault 2.1
... The 2 main things I am focusing on are 7Z and CHD support, and the good news is both are coming along well, and both work to a degree. ..."

 

And agree, by far the best manager.

You know, I'm all for having a manual, but if there is none, one should use their general knowledge of computers to explore.  Context Menus have been around since mid 1980s.  It should be an automatic instinct to try it out as it's part of standard UI design.

I partly agree with Kodoichi here. Although any good application (or any other thing in 2016) should have decent usability and user experience, making its usage obvious and self explanatory, a bit of documentation, even in the form of a small web page of howto / quick tutorial just to let a less computer savvy user quickly scan and rebuild his sets.
I haven't used both RomVault and cmp lately but that would just be a couple of images each to: copy or import dats to the right place / organization; configure system(s) folder(s) [source, destination, output, whatever], and action [scan, rebuild, or others].

So, an instruction manual is what you want, how about an instruction video, and has been around for 7 years.
