Tool to create dats?
« on: May 28, 2010, 02:50:11 PM »
No, I won't touch Clrmame Pro.

Is there any other tool for Windows to create a new dat?

TIM is still working fine for creating DATs, I'm also doing mine with it.

What's wrong with Clrmame?
Everything ;D

What dat type do I have to choose in TIM? Clrmame, Romcenter, TUGID or TIM? And how do I add entries to the database at all?

DAT Type: Clrmame Pro
It's pretty easy to generate alot DATs in a row, that's why I prefer TIM for DAT creation more than clrmame.
The Feature of adding entries to the existing TIM.db is kinda bugged, I tried it once to make a db for it with the latest DATs but gotit all screwed up.

Here's an example as attachment. (remember that your files need to be zipped before creating the DAT)

AFAIK there is other tool around called "Dat Workshop" or something. I never tried it but maybe it also creates dats :P

Looks like I used the wrong tool in TIM, I thought I need to use the Database Manager.

Hello,
i use DatUtil ( http://www.logiqx.com/Tools/DatUtil/ )

For CRC + SHA1 :
datutil.exe -x -f listinfo -o "data.dat" "Rom Folder"

For CRC + MD5 :
datutil.exe -x -m -f listinfo -o "data.dat" "Rom Folder"

I now have a really small dat for the Amiga public domain collection "Time". Is it of any interest for Tosec?

You could get in contact with PandMonium, he can give you access to ftp for uploading DATs, just pass him a PM. :P
