What should i use if i don't know the date at all? (xxxx) or (-) or (----)?
4-letter patterns look better imho.

TNC states that either (19xx) or (20xx) should be used - if you're totally at a loss it's probably safest to use (19xx) until some further information is available

Yes, but it would exclude (20xx) that is not true.

I've seen (-) on some "ZZZ-Unk"s.
