TNC manual errors
« on: January 02, 2010, 09:10:11 AM »
http://www.tosecdev.org/index.php/tosec-naming-convention?start=2

Quote
In cases where the title begins with the word "The" or “A”, it should be moved to the end of the title, and preceded by a comma. This same rule applies if the title is non-English, "De" for Dutch, "Die" for German, "Le/La/Les" for French, etc. etc.

• “The Legend of TOSEC" would become "Legend of TOSEC, The"
• "A Legend of TOSEC Members" would stay "A Legend of TOSEC Members"
Nope, that would be "Legend of TOSEC Members, A", just like you wrote above that an "A" should be moved to the end. But:

"A-team of TOSEC Members" would stay "A-team of TOSEC Members"

Also add "Der/Die/Das" for German.

Something else:
Both the pages for [m] and [h] say "general hack", but only [h] is explained further. Please explain when [m] is used.

Remember that the TNC document got changed for some cases alot, I guess that's why the mistake with ""A Legend of TOSEC Members" happened.
Also we discussed about that quite alot, we know that "Der/Die/Das" is used in german.
I'll talk to PandMonium later, remember that in TNC there are just examples for a few languages but if it makes you happy we could also add a full list for the languages that we have information for.

[m]: It's used when someone modified the game like changing the color of the main character, adding support for other controls like lightgun.
[h]: It's used when a group or person added their name to the title screen or made a small intro without the need of cracking the game.

Hi guys,
Bugmenot, thank you very much by those reports, they are quite useful, fixed them based on you and TKaos help :)
I'm sorry for the errors but i guess i was the only one reading it previously and made it based on the last version we had, also most of the flags were introduced way before i was around and i wasn't 100% sure of their usage, feel free to report any other errors or suggestions too :)

• Legend of TOSEC, The (1986)(Devstudio)(US)[cr PDX][h TRSi]
• Legend of TOSEC, The (1986)(Devstudio)(US)[h PDX - TRSi]

Note: When various groups or person names are used in the same flag, them must always be separated using “ , never with &, “-“ or “+”!

Can some confirm if its , or -

you use - in example and , in the note. Theres not enough " either.

Thanks for the tip kafiend, it's obviously " - ", i must have broken it the last time it was updated.
The note should read something like:
Quote
... always be separated using " - ", never with "&", "-" or "+".

A little explanation, before this TNC version, we accepted both " - " and " + " to separate groups, it was used to distinguish between a cooperative work by two groups and independent works (one group cracked it after other).
Since this usage was never followed apart from Amiga dats and some TKaos works we deprecated it. It added unneeded complexity and was far from perfect, after all, when a set is cracked by two groups it is almost always cooperative, if other group works on a cracked set already, it may be to add trainers or to fix a non working crack.

Because of all that we simplified it and not we use only " - ".
The note was added because, probably long ago, some renamers never followed the rule and trimmed the white spaces, specially on C64 sets as DuncanTwain may have found by now, there are a lot of sets using "TBT-BLF", "FDF+ASD", "Expendables & Razor" and so on. This is wrong, breaks the convention and makes my life much harder trying to parse info automatically. Even if these strings represent 2 groups, according to the rules they are seen as single one and should be done properly.
