New Country & Language Codes
« on: August 12, 2009, 02:45:37 AM »
Hi guys ;D

As you may know TNC has changed a bit in the last months/year trying get ride of errors / problems, the last and most notorious change is related with country and language codes and was announced months ago in one of the toseciso updates. These changes haven't been included in a new TNC document yet but the main differences are:
  • country codes now follow the ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 standard (the difference is that they are now all upcased)
  • language codes now follow the ISO 639-1 (changes are bigger here, some codes are different now)

TOSEC ISO datfiles were already updated and are using the new codes, on the other hand non iso dats (the ones that use a lot of country and language flags) still need to be changed, since there are dats using thousands of these old codes and some language codes collide (Serbian: old = cs ; new = sr / Czech: old = cz / new = cs) doing it manually is not an option, thats why i NEED to get in contact with the current renamers and their dats (+ there should NOT be old and new codes mixed together in the same dat).

There are some small non iso dats that were already converted to the new codes manually and i need to know which ones, the plan is to get all those old code dats, convert them to the new codes and drop support for old country/language codes, if you don't want to lose your wip please answer me :P, if no info is passed to me i will assume no one is working on those dats and convert the current ones.

Well as you might know, I still work on the Atari 8bit DATs and will also convert the language/country codes manually.
As far as I know there are not that many in those DATs yet which makes it easy to convert them.

yes, off course i know (+-) your status :P
but what i need is to get in contact with other renamers too, all dats NEED to be converted to the new codes asap so i need to know who is working on what, get the dats (new/old ones) and convert them.
I don't want to have a mix of new code dats with old code ones so if you have contact with some renamers tell them to join here :)
