Date Flag Question
« on: November 19, 2011, 08:10:01 AM »
I've problems to name several type-in magazines (double-issues)....

example :
this one is clear :
Outlaw is a multipart type-in from the german magazine computronic issue october 1984
Outlaw (1984-10)(Computronic)(de)[type-in][multipart]

but
Game Buffalo Bill is a type-in from the german magazine computronic  issue Nov/Dez 1984  (double-issue)    ???
How to name those double issues ?

maybe :
Buffalo Bill (1984)(Computronic)(de)[type-in][issue 1984 nov-dez]

EDIT:

better this : ?
Buffalo Bill (1984)(Computronic)(de)[type-in][issue nov-dez]

EDIT 2:
OK.....think i'll use Buffalo Bill (1984)(Computronic)(de)[type-in][issue nov-dez]

@staff:
please reply, if you think i should name it an other way  ;)

I think the issue of the magazine got released either at November or at December, despite being on sale/covering two months. Maybe they sold it on December because of being late and had to pretend it covers 2 months???

In any case, this is the month that should go in the date. IMHO always. :)

well all issues are double issues , exept 1984-04 - 1984-10
All others are double-issues : first 1984-11/12  last (for vic20 type-ins)  1987-11/12

So, you mean i should always use the second month ? i.e.  1986-may-jun = (1986-06) in descritption ?

No, I don't mean you should always use the 2nd month. Depends on specific conditions, which I don't know about this specific magazine. The way I think about it, there are 2 main cases:
1) magazine is bi-monthly by default. It gets released in one month and covers the next month as well. In this case, I think it's proper to use the first month as a date.
2) magazine got delayed for some reason and had to pretend it covers the previous month, where no magazine was released. In this case, I think the 2nd month should be used, as this is the month that the magazine actually hit the stores.

So, in "normal" cases it's proper to use the first month.
Of course, it might be better to wait for a more "official" answer, I am just throwing ideas around. :)

I think in most cases it'll be the first month, never saw a magazine that makes a march/april release in april to cover the month that passed, they rather show in the magazine what's comming up at april.
So in the end, I think using first month in those double issues will be most likely correct.

Yeah exactly.... dates in the publishing world are (still even now) pretty stupid, especially in UK and Germany.

First month makes sense, unless you specificity know they used a different (even weirder) date scheme. Aral had some real weird ones when doing TOSEC-PIX.
