[cr SAMEGROUP][t SAMEGROUP] / (#)
« on: December 30, 2009, 10:30:08 AM »
In the latest dat I see that lots of games have the same group(s) that cracked and trained it:

Night Hunter (1990)(Ubi Soft)[cr Angels - Genesis - Defjam][t +5 Angels - Genesis - Defjam].adf

Can't [cr] and [t] (as well as [h], [m] and [f]...) be shortened to something like:
Night Hunter (1990)(Ubi Soft)[cr+t +5 Angels - Genesis - Defjam].adf
or Night Hunter (1990)(Ubi Soft)[cr-t +5 Angels - Genesis - Defjam].adf

Same for (cr+f) or (h+f), (m+t) and so on...

Another flag I noticed and couldn't find in the TNC are single numbers and letters:

Wizardry VI - Bane of the Cosmic Forge (1990)(Sir-tech)(De)(Disk 1 of 5)(A).adf

Is that the way the original disks are labelled? I think this is unnecessary, as you might as well drop the (disk) flag then and use those single characters instead. Either one flag or the other, if you keep the single characters, then add them consistently to every game with multiple disks and not just a few ones.

This has been discussed a while ago in EAB forum and there seems to be no way.
and by the way, i dont like it either.

Your example:
Wizardry VI - Bane of the Cosmic Forge (1990)(Sir-tech)(De)(Disk 1 of 5)(A)
Anyway it makes sense in this case to add disk label,
because the game asks for disk "A", and not disk 1.
Maybe you should also read TNC document for better understanding.
There are much more examples, where it is really needed to add the disk label, because some games asks for different disks than disk 1, disk 2, disk 3 and so on, for example "Data", "Graphics", "Network".

Back then I wrote things like "Ghouls 'n' Ghosts 2/2" on the disks of my pirated games, even though the game asks for "disk B" (if I remember correctly) and still I knew what was meant. I understand that the flag is needed if a game asks for the "data disk" or "save disk", but I can't imagine that someone doesn't understand that A=1, B=2, C=3...

I had a look at it, but where am I supposed to find a flag called (A) or (nnnn) there?

Hi there,

first, is that a real username or we already have a bugmenot account for this?  ;D

Anyway, i think mai already gave a good introduction to it, i understand what you said and the problems with it (basically, redundant text and unfortunately extra length in filenames), but on the other way TNC is already confuse and complex and adding those alternatives wouldn't help in my opinion, you can read what was discussed some time ago here

Anyway we're always open to suggestion and want to make things better, there are a few aspects in TNC that still need to be cleared out or fixed, it is far from perfect :P

As for the filename in question of your example, i don't know much about most of the systems but from what i know most of the times some group cracked it and other trained it for example, since various group names appear in the game it can lead to mistakes thinking that all groups were involved in both crack and training, but it isn't always true :P

My example showed a game where the same group was responsible for the crack and the trainer, but if you have this:

Night Hunter (1990)(Ubi Soft)[cr Angels - Genesis - Defjam][h Spaikers][t +5 Angels - Genesis - Defjam].adf

then it would become:

Night Hunter (1990)(Ubi Soft)[cr+t +5 Angels - Genesis - Defjam][h Spaikers].adf

I don't really see why this should not be possible to do, well the problem will be to update all DATs with it, maybe mai can talk more about it since I missed that discussion in EAB.

tbh - don't overcomplicate things, the "gain" isn't worth it at all

It's not making things more complicated, you're just too lazy to change now that all games have already been renamed the long way :P

No, i just can't see the point whatsoever - laziness or not doesn't come into it.
