TOSEC-ISO: PSX and Gamecube?
« on: February 16, 2014, 09:17:26 AM »
Hello there,

I wonder if there will be DATs for PSX (there are a few prototypes and betas included already) and Nintendo Gamecube might be included in TOSEC-ISO one day? Using the databases from redump.org and the TruRip project it might be possible to get the work done in a reasonable time span. (I haven't worked for TOSEC-ISO yet. So please don't kill me if I absolutely underestimate the amount of time needed to build up the database. I only thought it won't be as long as with the other systems because dumps and their hashes already exist.)

Or are those system out of TOSEC's focus for any reason (maybe not Old School enough)?  ;) I don't understand what qualifies a system to be integrated in TOSEC (either the main branch or the ISO branch).

But anyways, you are far ahead when it comes to the Amiga ISOs and PC ISOs, so keep up the good work!

Nope... they both will be, just nobody working on them at the moment.

Yeah, renaming is a tiring and thankless job mostly. Most wouldn't want to do it at all and even those that try usually burn out fast.
Oh well, eventually someone will handle those too. :)

Challenge accepted.  8)

I can only do renaming the existing redump dats. Downloading every ISO file to validate is not possible for me at the moment. But redumped stuff should be validated enough to simply rename it to TOSEC, shouldn't it?

Maybe I will wait until the next TOSEC release...

I totally forgot one thing in my plan to rename the existing redump.org DATs according to the TNC and "merge" them with TOSEC-ISO:

What about the image formats? Do redump.org and TOSEC-ISO use the same dumping method and formats or are them incompatible? Is there anywhere declared which dumping method and image formats have to be used in TOSEC-ISO?

Like I say, lets discuss after release. There's lots of things to be aware of re ISO, some technical, some historic but I can go thru it all with you.  :)
