Both are technically 'correct', it's simply the same promo disc, I'm not sure we should be doubling up?

I remember facing this problem and discussing about it with idoru. Since it's not even on the same dat, the decision was that there is no major harm in letting it be twice, as it really was released as 2 quite distinct releases.
One possible solution would be to merge Coverdiscs and Samplers dats, but I don't really think it's necessary.

No, don't think that's the solution.

Completely understand how this has arisen. Game Developer A creates Demo Disc, gives it away with affiliated game X, promotional competition, just flat out gives them out, whatever. Also, gives it to 'Official' magazine Y, who slap their own logo on the disc (cover disc done for this month, woohoo BEERS!).

I mean thats the point. It's a PROMOTIONAL SAMPLE. To create buzz/sales.

Sega Saturn has loads, PS1 too, God I'm sure most major platforms do.

Tricky one though. Must be an issue with floppy coverdiscs too (in MAIN). Compilations/Collections too.

No harm, for sure. But dupes... meh... dupes are annoying, where you draw the line?

BTW... think I've found some more examples (rebuilding ISO from near scratch), will post findings. Maybe shed extra light on it.

I'm not convinced some of these are not just flat out errors...

We need some sort of checks in place for dupes. I used to do this sporadically when I had every single TOSEC file saved and unzipped in all branches, and used to CloneSpy the whole tree (but that aint happening again any time soon!).

Pand - is TOSEC-DB still a thing that is? Could some sort of duplicate checking of hashes be added to this? Obv I'm a bit out of the loop with whats been going on recently....

Cassiel, i am in the process of updating my ISO's from scratch and have noticed all these duplicates.  Have gone through my old documentation prior to 2010 and have found that these files were never duplicated and have only recently been added to other dats. I will fix them for next release
