Naming software published as listings in computer magazines
« on: April 20, 2011, 09:09:49 AM »
Hello,

Back in the 80's much software was published in the form of listings printed in computer magazines. Much time and work is being invested in order to recover and/or type those listings to bring the software back to electronic format. As long as I remember current TOSEC specs do not account for this case so in the meantime, I'm renaming in the following fashion and willing to openly discuss in a possitve way all nuances ands standpoints:

Title (Year)(Magazine - Author)[more info]

e.g.
Tiburon (1986)(MSX-Club 20 - Cano Rodriguez Antonio)[CLOAD]

This is an MSX1 videogame, loading method - cload.

In this case the publisher is the magazine, so I always used that in the publisher field.
As far as I know some other DATs used this way too.

Hello,

That's a good point too. However, we'd miss author namde and it would be difficult to discern whether a given publisher is a publisher or a magazines. That's why I was being more specific.

Well you could also say that about other publishers (we miss programmer names), I personally don't need those author names in the files, it's enough to know by whom it got published and that's the magazine name.

Late answer, sorry for that.
