Commodore 64 real time copy commands
« on: March 02, 2011, 01:39:11 AM »
Hi to old friends & tosec crew..

Have a question wich i thought i could find an answer from someone here. I'm busy with my C64, but i've got a problem. I want to make a nice 'best off' collection of my games but all i can find are copy programs that let me copy a whole floppy.

Now it's a real real long time ago, but i remember it's possible with simple commands, but..

How do i copy a single program from one floppy to the other so i can pick out all the best games and make a few superb flops. I know with MSX in dos it used to be the best option and as far as i can remember there was also a c64 dos wich was loads better then copying in basic as u had to swicht flops loads and loads of times.

Also, i have two diskdrives, but i cant figure out how to get them both working and copying, must be something with interface and serial, but if i don't have to switch the flops loads of times i can copy in basic as well i thought.

If anyone can help me out with some real-time c64 copying commands / suggestions i would be very thankfull.. (maybe i can do something for tosec again in return  :-*)

Hi gnomula,

On a real C64 I generally use 'cbm-command', see http://cbmcommand.codeplex.com/ for details. Works perfect with dual disk drives.

Thanks for that Duncan. I saw the video of it and it seems to be what i need. Now i have to figure out how i get this .dsk on my real c64. I read about it and i'm gonna have a hard time doing so  ???

Looking and looking on the net for basic c64 copy commands is a struggle, but getting there bit by bit.

U maybe have suggestions of what the simples way is to get that .dsk on my c64 flop (i was thinking of trying to hook my c64 diskdrive to the cpu as i read it to be possible with special cables and such)

Anyway thanks i'm a step further.

Thanks Symmo,

Still busy, but i'm getting there. I think i'll eventually go for the zoomfloppy, usb to 1541. Heard good things about fairlight too, but i dont have a cable from 1541 din to the old printerport plus i don't have an old printerport on my new cpu  :(.. Besides that i'm not born for technical stuff. I did get an final cartridge 1 whit a big c64 lot i bought, seems to have more simple commands and i finally got my second diskdrive to work on port 9 (load"$",9).

But i'm surprized at how complicated copying single files seem to be on a c64, used to msx-dos, that worked good, i think 48k in a row and then swap floppy's.

Thanks for the info

regards
