Renaming
« on: September 27, 2012, 08:24:22 PM »
Want to get back into renaming, is the ST guy still around?

Don't want to step on his toes if he's still active, if he's not then who do I see about submitting a dat.

It will only be new files, and I haven't started yet.

My Amiga directory is far bigger, but theirs loads of people working on that so that will get smaller and smaller as time goes by, my ST unknowns only get bigger.

I'm Ian over at EAB and have renamed before.

Hey Ian,

Atari ST nowadays is pretty much halted, the last changes were introduced by Diabol so you might want to contact him. However i think he is not currently working with them.

Any help is welcomed so feel free to choose the system / job that you enjoy more, even if Amiga is more active.
The renaming process is quite simple, if you're (re)starting, just try to identify exactly what those unrenamed sets are and why they differ the known ones and follow the TNC (don't use just title, year and publisher if more info is available). After renaming a bunch of them, create a new datfile and submit it to be checked. There is a tool (TDE) that might help you identifying possible renaming (TNC) mistakes.

If you decide to go ahead just pm me so i can give you some additional information.

According to this thread http://www.tosecdev.org/index.php/forum/index.php?topic=464.0 someone has started work on the Atari DATs, in our latest release there were no changes to ST.
Cassiel might know more about the current status of the DATfiles, anyway it's always nice to see some older guys back to renaming, would be nice to have those DATs updated too. :)

Completely forgot about that. Thanks for pointing that out TKaos! My suggestion is for you to contact both the author of the post and Cassiel.

Had quite a few emails back and forth answering LOTS of questions and pointing-in-right-places, but heard nothing further. No DATs. Last email was 21/08/2012.
