TOSEC FTP
« on: January 10, 2010, 01:09:59 PM »
Hi,

I've read a few people talking about the TOSEC FTP, is this for admin and devs only?

I know all the fills always get posted to abem, (apart from the n64 memory manager one that everyone except the renamer is missing), but I thought having a look at the FTP every now and again would be good to get stuff that will be in future dats etc.

Thanks,

NQ.

Hi niallquinn,

The FTP you've probably read of doesn't have any sets, the project focus is about creating and improving our databases and so we have things like an FTP for submitting WIP dats and sometimes tools, plus having all those sets would require tons of space and be of questionable legality :P

Sometimes some members accept/share indeed new/unrenamed files using their own FTPs or something similar (like what happened with Xttx dumps), but that just happens so they can get new sets to check and rename/add if that is the case. As for that missing set you talked about, i'm sure it will appear somewhere but i can't help you since i don't collect that stuff :S

Personally, I'd be willing to provide a limited FTP site on my pc at home. A 50Meg down (so fast up from everyone else) and 1.5Meg up (down for you)... Got plenty of space here.. If it helps for community as opposed to complete collections (that's what torrents are for!)...

It's a matter of copyrights, not about having no fast FTPs. :)

Thanks for your offer sp33dy but i guess i prefer your ideas/discussions on new tools and stuff :P

Your offer is off course appreciated but at least for now we are ok, if we need something in the future i'll be asking to you and others that offered :P
We don't need much to store and submit our work/dats, as for new files and things like that, they aren't a lot and off course not always coming so for now we already have enough solutions thanks to some members. As you point out, we aren't here to provide setfiles (which in some cases might be illegal), plus having an FTP to store all that would be too much and just provide a way of people leech and use up all available bandwidth, i'm sure there are already a bunch of great ways to get that from torrent to newsgroups.

That's all, keep posting and suggesting new ideas if you have/want ;D
