New dumps:

Beneath a Steel Sky (1994)(Revolution Software ~ Virgin Interactive Entertainment)(ES es)(Original Big Box)(Arcadia)
Secret of Monkey Island, The v1.1 VGA (1994)(Luscasfilm Games)(ES es)(Maxi Juegos Erbe #02)(Altaya)
Simon The Sorcerer (1993)(Adventure Soft)(ES es)(Original Big Box)(Erbe)

URL: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=BCJI6MK1
Password: jk83y2m5t

The names are using our system, it's like TOSEC one but a little different:

name version (demo) (release_date)(developers [~ publishers if different])(regions languages)(edition_or_collection [#number_in_collection_if_numbered])(distributor)

Feel free to rename as you want. We are using this system because there are different editions of the same software and MD5s are different. So, in order to catalog them and be able to know from which one a dump comes, we need to preserve reference to edition and distributor. We are planning a database a la WorldOfSpectrum InfoSeek to keep detailed info of every dump released.

Bad news. I'm testing Simon The Sorcerer and floppy image #2 has a corrupt file:

LHa: Error: CRC error c:/simon/0902.vga

I've dumped all the floppies using 3 PCs and 3 drives. 4 Times each floppy on each PC. Then, I compared all MD5s in order to detect any bad dump. But it appears to be that the floppy is OK but the file inside is corrupt.

I'm looking for another floppy to check it and for the SIMON.D2 file of the floppy. Maybe I could fix the floppy image knowing the difference between the original file and my floppy's one.

Is that a result of a baddump, a damaged disk or a copy protection?
We have to take attention to these details, fixing manually (by editing) a disk results in a different disk (modification) and is renamed different, for example with a fix descriptor = [f descriptor].

If the original disk has the errors (protection), the best we can do is dumping it with a proper tool like what vicvan said, in order to have a true authentic image of the original disk. :)

Finally...

Well, there are some altered bytes in the floppy. The reason is unknown. Filesystem is OK, all files are OK but SIMON.D2. Only an small portion of the file is bad. Finally i've found that file in a very old videogame collection and I think I can repair the floppy image using an hexadecimal editor.

There are many new dumps. I'll send you in a few days.

PandMonium:

The modification will be done to the current floppy image.
The image has been dumped using 2 PCs and 4 floppy drives. Copied 4 times on each PC/drive combination. Then, CRCs and MD5s where compared to avoid errors.

The result image has been readed with no errors, but lha reports CRC error uncompressing "SIMON.D2" file.
Now I have got a good copy of than file from another source but from the same disk version.

About Simon the Sorcerer (ES), after carefull analysis i've found that the file in the floppy is OK. Something strange happens.

When you extract the file (using WinImage or mounting the image in Linux as a loopback device), the file obtained is corrupt from offset 1265734 to offset 1266175.

When I open the .ima image using a hexadecimal editor and I copy the entire file data (from .ima offset 16896 to 1472547, 1455652 bytes in total) to a new file, the result file is OK, it's identical the the good copy I found in an old videogame collection.

So the file data is OK in the floppy. The corruption occurs accesing the filesystem. I think there is a virus in the floppy (from .ima offset 1473024 to 1473535).

I use Mac OS X and Linux. It would be nice if anyone could check the virus.

I'm uploading new releases to MegaUpload, I'll post URLs soon.

Hi BlueArrow, i'm not really into that stuff but some CRC errors might result from copy protections or sometimes damaged disks. Maybe vicvan, Aral or others might give you some hints about it.
If you hex edit the disk to "fix it" in order to make it playable it will result in a fixed set "[f descriptor Author]", as it will be different from an original, clean, unmodified, perfect dump :P

Can't tell you much more about it, hope someone help can :)

NEW DUMPS.
23 games in total / 86 flopies.

Each floppy has been dumped 4 times in 4 drives and 2 computers (2 drives per computer, 16 times). Then all CRC/MD5/SHA1 where compared in order to detect errors.
All is 100% OK and from original retail software. Some games where dumped from different original copies and then compared (No differences found).
All games where then installed and tested using DOSBox (Some Sierra On-Line games where installed and tested in Windows 98 due DOSBox incompatibility in the installer).

Names don't follow TOSEC's TNC because we want preserve other info like Developer, Distributor and Edition. Feel free to rename them as you like.
