Are the forums a barometer of activity?
« on: July 19, 2013, 08:20:23 AM »
Hi all,

I'm just curious if I can take the lack of activity around here as a barometer to the speed of progress for the project?  Obviously I don't expect every minuscule piece of information to pass through the forums & I do expect Real Life to get in the way but no posts in half a month is strongly suggestive that there's very little activity around here.

I can't speak for everyone, but they don't indicate my level of activity. A quick look at my post history reveals that prior to two posts in May of this year, the last time I posted was November 2012. During that period I did a fair amount of work on a bunch of different systems.

Generally, unless I'm giving a periodic update on progress or have a specific query for someone, I don't have much to post about here. That seems to be the case for a number of people.

I also suspect you can measure activity in different ways. If I'm renaming large quantities of files, I might post more often. At the moment, I'm working through the archives of the Atari 2600 Stella mailing list, collecting and identifying homebrew software posted there. This is lengthy and fairly painstaking work, yielding maybe 10 files per month of the archives - there's just not that much to say at the moment.

I am not posting WIP reports at all, so I only post if I feel there's something worth replying to.
But always working on the background (currently on the ZX Spectrum SPS sets, but mostly on the Dreamcast side)

Hi Barthax,

Indeed the project has been moving at a slow (but constant! :P) pace over the last years but things have not stopped or anything. Unfortunately some of us tend to have really busy periods and thus are less active but there are things being done. Some renamers don't say much apart from getting the work done.
You have the example of mictlantecuhtle, Duncan also has bursts of work from time to time and others are doing an excelent work and post more on specific boards such as the EAB amiga TOSEC board (mai, Crashdisk and others), Maddog etc.

I suppose not all forum sections are public anyway?

Yes, there is a subsection that is members only where we discuss future changes and other things like that. Some parts of it could be public anyway and would show a bit more activity :)

LOL... exactly.

To be honest, I think the last few weeks have been especially quiet on the forum, but that's just the way it goes sometimes.

As mentioned, lots of TOSEC members tend to be busy on other related forums too...  :)

:) strangely enough, but all the tosec related discussions seem to be carried out on other forums ;)

And.. we're too busy doing the renaming instead of talking about it ;)

speaking for myself, its on & off work wise. I tend to go with wild bursts of enthusiasm, and you just cant fake those, got to wait for em. If you don''t, well, people tend to rush things abit.

Speccy games tzx coming on quite nicely at the moment though. :)

That''s common to most of us Vaxalon. Moreover we are right in the middle of the summer and most tend to be away in vacations and such. :)

For me it is, atm I''m not posting much here and also not doing very much on my DATs.
Well I think it''s gonna change soon as I have some weeks free time and I really want to finish some stuff.

btw PandMonium, what''s up with the apostrophe changing?
