VIC20 possibly incorrrect DAT entries
« on: November 02, 2024, 12:20:10 PM »
Hello,

I've tested the latest VIC20 DAT I could find (2012-04-23): link removed by moderator

After running RomVault v3.7.2 (Linux CLI) to sort the ROMs in the proper folder structures I have the following entries staying in the "ToSort" directory:

Code: [Select]
$ tree ToSort/
ToSort/
└── Commodore VIC20 [TOSEC]
    ├── Commodore VIC20 - Applications - [PRG] (TOSEC-v2011-12-15_CM)
    │   └── Computer.char (19xx)(-)[computer font utility].zip
    ├── Commodore VIC20 - Games - [CRT] (TOSEC-v2011-12-15_CM)
    │   └── Synthesound (1982)(HES)[A000].zip
    └── Commodore VIC20 - Games - [PRG] (TOSEC-v2012-01-26_CM)
        ├── ZZZ-UNK-MULTILOAD-SPACE ATTACK (19xx)(ROMIK)(File 2 of 2)[ZZSPACEA].zip
        ├── ZZZ-UNK-NEEDS LOADER-WACKY WAITERS (19xx)(-)[b][SYS 7296].zip
        └── ZZZ-UNK-NEEDS LOADER-WACKY WAITERS (19xx)(-)[b].zip

5 directories, 5 files

IIUC this means the DAT does not provide info for cataloguing these files, correct?

Am I using the latest version of the TOSEC DAT? Who is the maintainer of the VIC20 DAT? Anything I can do to help fixing this?

Thanks

Hi there, first of all apologies for the delay in replying. Secondly, I've removed the link you posted - this is not a place for sharing copyrighted material.

You are correct in your understanding of how the DAT-ROM relationship works - if ROMVault did not pick up those files then they are no longer present in that DAT/set of DATs. However I'd note that 2012 was a LONG time ago, and that files can be removed for any number of reasons. I'm not an expert on the system but it's likely that these were determined to be not just bad but genuinely useless i.e. junk data or empty files.
