unknown c64 prg images
« on: June 24, 2013, 12:01:36 AM »
Hi there,
I'm quite new to TOSEC, so please stay polite  ;D

Using the c64 tosec dats together with cmpro64 is no big deal. Works really well.
But most of my prg images do not get found and renamed by the cmpro64 Rebuilder unfortunately.
Even though the prg runs with the CCS64 emulator and the applicable dat shows the demo name.
So I'm wondering if you guys help help me out? Keep in mind, I'm a total newbie! ???

Many thanks for your start-up aid!

W.S.

Hey there,

I'm not the best person to speak about C64 but maybe you have alternate versions of that software. Some systems and emulators modify the media and that leads to a ton of "different versions" for each game (since high scores, save games and other data gets changed). This might not be the case with c64, someone more knowledgeable may give a better explanation.

However there might be some interesting sets in your collection that we might miss. You might try a few other dats (other than TOSEC) to see if you get something identified. There are even a few dats for sets that are still unrenamed and not included in rom databases.

For instance in rommanager (http://www.emulab.it/rommanager/) you can check NoIntro C64 (custom3) or one of Miscellaneous ones (Unrenamed Files and Nongood?) and post some feedback :)

Absolutely... if you have lots of C64 not identified by our DATs, I'm sure Duncan Twain would be very interested in them!  :)

Yes, please! Upload them anywhere so that I can download and identify them.

Duncan: Any chance you could do me a dat of your WIP directory (i.e. stuff you have but haven't got around to renaming)? I've got about 7.5GB of undatted C64 stuff sitting on an external HD and I figure you might like some of it.

Hi mictlantecuhtle,

Willing to do so, expect there's a small issue. I don't have a single wip folder and there are a few hundred GB's of files laying around. I think it's easier to create a DAT out of your 7.5GB and I can let you know what I'm missing? Is that an option?

Cheers,
Duncan

No problem - that makes much more sense. I'll get on it tonight.

Fixdats uploaded to my upload folder, not much I'm missing. I've included a couple more, maybe you have those too. Thanks for the effort!

Fixes uploaded. There's less than expected - I realised a lot of stuff in them was PNG or TXT files and have removed those.

Hi there,
still around but real life don''t give me too much spare time to continue my challenge.

Here is an update of my newbie efforts.

Tried those dats PandMonium suggested to use to identify any more missing files.
And yes, some few pop up but the remainder pile is still big. Not talking about GB like you do though
Anyway, I''m wondering if there''s any quick way to get adfs split to the different prg saved on it.
I have my collection on disks using each single of the 664 blocks.
I was insane back in time!!! Did not want to have any single block unused on my disks.
Tried some of the adf editors I found around on the net but those are not really user friendly in regards to quickly get individual prg files saved for further processing.
So is there any smart tool doing the job available, if not I need to continue to do more or less manual.

Finally I will try to get me more familiar how to upload files/folders to your ftp ... just to have some of the unknown prg sent to you folks for kind and appriciated check.

Cheers,
W.S.

Hey, if you can upload your files to ftp I can process them futher using my custom tool. It extracts every file and uncompresses them several times to see whether it needs to add it to the tosec collection.
