Title: Publication date
Post by: DarranC on December 29, 2013, 03:06:30 PM
Hi,

I'm working on a dat file for TOSEC-PIX and was after some advice on vague publication dates. Does anyone have a recommendation as to how to handle dates such as Summer 1991?

Thanks.

Sorry for the delay.

No idea about the possible month? I guess you could use just the year in the date field and add [Summer Issue] at the end?

Aral is the one to answer this, maybe it's not the first case of that. :-)

No worries PM. Thanks for the reply. The best I can do is assume the season is in the northern hemisphere, but it gets worse than that. The followup issue is dated Late Summer.

Genius... 'Spring-ish 1991'... LOL

Yeah, think Aral may have to weigh in on this one...

Ok, I think I'll go with PM's suggestion and then wait to see what Aral suggests. This is my first dat file. What's the preferred method to get it to Aral?

Not sure about his personal preferences but I guess you can use whatever you like. You can upload to somewhere and share the link with him (or other member), mail it, attach here and so on. If you plan to contribute more times maybe I can grant you a place to upload that (pm me if interested). :)

If the publishing date is quarterly it is the following depending on hemisphere

2000-03
2000-06
2000-09
2000-12

If it is bi-monthly it is the second month

ie.

Jan-Feb 2000 = 2000-02
Mar-April 2000 - 2000-04

Please PM me the dat files once completed.

I am not sure if this is the right way to do in.
In my mind a bi-monthly magazine gets released on the first month and "covers" the 2nd month as well. So shouldn't the publication date be the *first* month?
Same line of thought for quarterlies, say an Issue gets released in Jan and "covers" Feb and Mar as well. In this case, publication date seems more sensible to be set to Jan and not Mar.

Any other's thought on that subject?
