TBH Kodoichi if the USER MANUAL or USER GUIDE or INSTRUCTION MANUAL says the name of the game is Smash why would i give a shit what the options screen says.  As others have said before me if the manual / disk / box / HOL all refer to this games as Smash thats how it will be named in the next Commodore Amiga - Games - [ADF] dat.  IMO there is no need to discuss this point further.

As for your point about the date 1989-02-21 which game do you refer to?  I cant find any reference to this in any of your earlier posts.

There is none, it was just an example going by your logic of favouring a box print instead of ingame infos:
Being realistic if there is a boxscan / diskscan / manual available for the games they have to be the first point of call when it comes to renaming a game.

Please check it closer, the "startup-sequence" is bad, so the game dont start, if you would modify, then you would get a working set.

Dragon's Lair (1989)(ReadySoft)(Disk 1 of 8 )[cr ACU][t +2 ACU][a2].adf

Thanks, i will check , if it is really a demo, but the bad flag will remain.

When does a disk get a checksum flag anyway? I thought that's only when it says to "use the Disk doctor to correct it", but most games flagged that way seem to work.

Hi Kodoichi, thanks for your reports :)
If you're talking about [ b ] flag, imo and like the name implies it is used to mark bad dump sets, that have some errors and so are different than it was originally. There is a descriptor as you know to input a little more detail about it.

No, I mean the specific "[b checksum error]". I thought that's for completely unplayable games/nonworking disks, or isn't it?

Well descriptors are not all well explained and their meaning in some cases vary between systems or is subjective. IMO the crc/checksum error is used when roms have been wrongly dumped and the checksum is different to the original, confirmed when a proper dump is done (like in mame, roms get redumped or marked as bad dumps i guess).
Of course there are other views of it, from your last answer i suppose there is some Disk tool for Amiga that checks for disk images consistence and warns about errors, in that case i suspect sets also end up marked with checksum error, right?

That's just what i know/think, i'm sure there are a bunch of sets around all our dats with wrong info, not just in bad dump descriptors :)

As some of you guys know, i check every single disk and i also perform a file and virus test, if the disk is in DOS format.
So, if my tool reports a checksum error, the disk get the [bad] flag with descriptor "checksum error".
There are also some rare cases, where i did not add the [b checksum error] flag, althought the tool reports one or more.(difficult to explain)
OK, i always try to use general usages of descriptors to prevent having thousands descriptors for one and the same thing.
The "checksum error" descriptor is the actual error on disk, which causes different results.
So, if a set has got [b checksum error] flag, then this means you can expect, that this set does not properly work.
Some games really dont like such errors and you get message " disk has a read/write error", others games crashes without message, next game displays corrupt picture and so on.
Generally i can say, that i use the actual error as descriptor and not the result of this.
In the past i have used the following [bad] descriptors for DOS disks.
-checksum error = one or more files on disk have mentioned error
-bootblock = the bootblock is bad, prevents the disk to run
-startup-sequence = if something is wrong with the startup-sequence (see previous post)

Now i hope, you understand my point of view.

3D Construction Kit
Adventure Construction Set
Wargame Construction Set
...

Why have construction kits been moved to the games dat? They're primary applications to create games, not actual playable games (even if they might come with examples).

Then merge "Amiga groups related" and "Amiga publisher related" as well  >:(
