Amiga renaming suggestions
« on: January 11, 2010, 03:22:39 PM »
Mistakes in the "Amiga Games ADF" dat from 16.12.2009:

Big Sea (1994)(Starbyte)(DE)(Disk 1 of 4)[cr TRZ].adf
= Big Sea (1994)(Starbyte)(DE)(Disk 1 of 4)[cr TRZ][b read-write error].adf
(at least with the Quickstart A500 config from WinUAE)

Chaos Engine 2, The (1996)(Renegade)(Disk 1 of 3)[cr HF].adf
= Chaos Engine 2, The (1996)(Renegade)(Disk 1 of 3)[cr HF][b corrupt sprite gfx].adf
(whenever the player sprite gets hit, it changes into a garbled graphics block)

Soko (1993)(Intersoft)[Titan].adf
= Soko (1993)(Intersoft)[h Titan].adf
(I guess it's [h] as there are other such entries with Titan)

Ninja Mission (1987)(Mastertronic)[h Avatare].adf
= Ninja Mission (1987)(Mastertronic)[h Avatars].adf
(Anybody knows what songs the cracktro samples were taken from?)

Fussballmanager Gessellschaftsspeil (1990)(D & H Games)(DE)[cr SR].adf
= Fussballmanager Gesellschaftsspiel (1990)(D&H Games)(DE)[cr SR].adf

Soccer King (1988)(Kingsoft)(DE)[cr DNS - Rage][Midnight Maniac].adf
= Soccer King (1988)(Kingsoft)(DE)[cr Kontrasoft][Midnight Maniac].adf
("DNS - Rage" cracked it for Kontrasoft. See Test Drive as another example, there you have "the Rogues" who cracked it for "DF - TKT")

Spinworld (1988)(Axxiom)[cr UA - BST].adf
= Spinworld (1988)(reLINE)[cr UA].adf
Spinworld (1988)(Axxiom)[cr UA - BST][h Club Heavy].adf
= Spinworld (1988)(reLINE)[cr UA][h Club Heavy].adf
(Cracktro says BST is only the supplier of the original disk and UA cracked it. Where is Axxiom mentioned in the game?)

Sub Rally (1990)(CompuTec Verlag)(DE)(en)[cr EP][t +5 AFL][Amigo! 91-01].adf
= Sub Rally (1990)(CompuTec Verlag)(DE)(en)[cr EP][t +5 AFL][crippled Amigo! issue or so].adf
(The original Amigo 01/1991 disk has Sub Rally and Crazy Sue on it)

Belial (1989)(ECP)[t +1 Phantasie][b corrupt gfx].adf
Belial (1989)(ECP)[t +1 Phantasie][b corrupt gfx & missing gfx & sprites].adf
Belial (1989)(ECP)[t +1 Phantasie][b corrupt gfx & missing gfx].adf
(Corrupt graphics? Where? I tested the first level as far as I got and it's playable)

MoonShine Racers (1991)(Millennium)(Disk 1 of 2)[cr Blitter Brothers].adf
= MoonShine Racers (1991)(Millennium)(Disk 1 of 2)[cr Blitter Brother].adf

Adidas Championship Tie-Break (1990)(Ocean)(u).adf
= Adidas Championship tie break (1990)(Ocean)(u).adf

Motor Massacre (1992)(Gremlin)[h Fastcallers][Motor Massacre v1.5].adf
= Motor Massacre v1.5 (1992)(Gremlin)[cr Fastcallers][m Aznah Soft][aka Road Raider].adf
(Various things: I'm not sure if Aznah Soft is the developer or a cracking group, as the logo of the original developer - Gray Matter - is still there, but the image looks cheaply retouched with the new name. On the second title screen it says Fastcallers cracked it in '93. Third, why the game name and version at the end?)

Motor Massacre (1992)(Gremlin)[h][Motor Massacre v1.5].adf
= Motor Massacre v1.5 (1992)(Gremlin)[m SR][aka Road Raider].adf
Motor Massacre (1992)(Gremlin)[h][a][Motor Massacre v1.5].adf
= Motor Massacre v1.5 (1992)(Gremlin)[m SR][a][aka Road Raider].adf
(Look closely on the second title screen, it says Skid Row on a building. And again the version number at the end?)

Hi Kodoichi,

Thanks for that info, i'm sure mai will appreciate that, hope he can check if that is correct and if so, fixed. The Amiga Games ADF dat is being rechecked and as any other datfile, will never be perfect but we want to have as few mistakes as possible, some nice guys in EAB have also pointed out some corrections that might not yet been applied.

Bye :)

Woah, I remember reporting the "Motor Massacre" Skid Row error like 2-3 years ago in the EAB but I don't really know how far the old DAT-Helper came with fixing those errors.

First, thanks for the reports, Kodoichi, i am very grateful.
I have applied the changes, but not all, because i have different opinion.

Quote
Big Sea (1994)(Starbyte)(DE)(Disk 1 of 4)[cr TRZ].adf
= Big Sea (1994)(Starbyte)(DE)(Disk 1 of 4)[cr TRZ][b read-write error].adf
(at least with the Quickstart A500 config from WinUAE)
I will check later.

Quote
Chaos Engine 2, The (1996)(Renegade)(Disk 1 of 3)[cr HF].adf
= Chaos Engine 2, The (1996)(Renegade)(Disk 1 of 3)[cr HF][b corrupt sprite gfx].adf
(whenever the player sprite gets hit, it changes into a garbled graphics block)
I will check later.
Quote
Soko (1993)(Intersoft)[Titan].adf
= Soko (1993)(Intersoft)[h Titan].adf
(I guess it's [h] as there are other such entries with Titan)
Changed, of course its "[ h Titan]", a simple typo.

Quote
Ninja Mission (1987)(Mastertronic)[h Avatare].adf
= Ninja Mission (1987)(Mastertronic)[h Avatars].adf
(Anybody knows what songs the cracktro samples were taken from?)
Changed, it was difficult to read, i think you are right.
Quote
Fussballmanager Gessellschaftsspeil (1990)(D & H Games)(DE)[cr SR].adf
= Fussballmanager Gesellschaftsspiel (1990)(D&H Games)(DE)[cr SR].adf
Changed.

Quote
Soccer King (1988)(Kingsoft)(DE)[cr DNS - Rage][Midnight Maniac].adf
= Soccer King (1988)(Kingsoft)(DE)[cr Kontrasoft][Midnight Maniac].adf
("DNS - Rage" cracked it for Kontrasoft. See Test Drive as another example, there you have "the Rogues" who cracked it for "DF - TKT")
No, i have different opinion, i think "Kontrasoft" was a member of one of both groups, i think "Kontrasoft" was no group.

Quote
Spinworld (1988)(Axxiom)[cr UA - BST].adf
= Spinworld (1988)(reLINE)[cr UA].adf
Spinworld (1988)(Axxiom)[cr UA - BST][h Club Heavy].adf
= Spinworld (1988)(reLINE)[cr UA][h Club Heavy].adf
(Cracktro says BST is only the supplier of the original disk and UA cracked it. Where is Axxiom mentioned in the game?)
mhhh, but the crack is presented by both groups, i think i will not change, "Axxiom" = HOL info (see also Disk scan)

Quote
Sub Rally (1990)(CompuTec Verlag)(DE)(en)[cr EP][t +5 AFL][Amigo! 91-01].adf
= Sub Rally (1990)(CompuTec Verlag)(DE)(en)[cr EP][t +5 AFL][crippled Amigo! issue or so].adf
(The original Amigo 01/1991 disk has Sub Rally and Crazy Sue on it)
You are right, and this is the reason, why i have not moved to "Coverdisks" dat, its a Coverdisk rip.
Various other sets have been similar renamed in the past, so
i will not change.

Quote
MoonShine Racers (1991)(Millennium)(Disk 1 of 2)[cr Blitter Brothers].adf
= MoonShine Racers (1991)(Millennium)(Disk 1 of 2)[cr Blitter Brother].adf
mhhh, because some other sets are cracked/hacked by "Blitter Brothers" i thought its rather a typo by the group itself.
I will change.

Quote
Adidas Championship Tie-Break (1990)(Ocean)(u).adf
= Adidas Championship tie break (1990)(Ocean)(u).adf
I will not change, because HOL info.

Quote
Motor Massacre (1992)(Gremlin)[h Fastcallers][Motor Massacre v1.5].adf
= Motor Massacre v1.5 (1992)(Gremlin)[cr Fastcallers][m Aznah Soft][aka Road Raider].adf

Ok, changed to "[h SR]", but i will not change the title, because its hacked, there exists no official "v1.5" again its a hack, so i have moved the "V1.5" to [more info] flag, because  other sets have been renamed in this way in the past.

Again, thank you very much, and you can try to proove me wrong, if possible. ;)

Could be that the Axxiom one is a budget rerelease and HOL is wrong.

Then add an info like "crippled" or so, because otherwise people who don't know about the coverdisks dat will think that this is the full Amigo issue and it's going to cause confusion.

I'd say the game is called "adidas CHAMPIONSHIP tie break".

mai             = Adidas Championship Tie-Break
Kodoichi      = Adidas Championship tie break
TKaos         = adidas CHAMPIONSHIP tie break
HOL title      = adidas Championship Tie-Break
HOL disk      = adidas CHAMPIONSHIP TIE-BREAK

I think its not worth to discuss about the title, as you can see, there are always different opinions.
I have chosen the HOL title, and changed the first letter to upper case character, i have no clue, if it is allowed to start the title with lowercase character, i have never seen in Amiga Games dat.

About title screen, we usually go after the title used on the box/cover, that's why "Smash" was used.

:o

Shouldn't you rely on what the games says? Thousands of PD games don't come in a box either.

If possible I'm using the coverscan to get the correct spelling for the title, sure for some PD or scenegroup releases there is no way doing it like that, in the end we don't have a fixed rule for it. :/

It was a difficult decision what i have to do and because there is no information around it will stay as it is.

Mindfighter (1988)(Activision).adf

Mindfighter (1988)(Activision)[cr A-Ha].adf

You dont like HOL database as it seems?
HOL has diskscan, where you can see the disk is "Activision" labeled.
In the game itself often you can not see the puplisher but the developer.

Smash (1992)(Idea)[cr CDI][a2].adf
= Smash! (1992)(Idea)[cr CDI][a2].adf
(Title screen says "Smash", menu screen says "Smash!"?)
Again HOL database as the reference.
disk and front = Smash

Nevertheless thank you.

Try to find real errors!

Kodoichi i am struggling to see the same errors you are finding.  For example

Smash (1992)(Idea)

The diskscan and box scan on the HOL both have the name as Smash, not Smash!.  You can see the diskscan here and the boxscan is here also..... http://hol.abime.net/1984/boxscan

I also have the manual for the game here and i can tell you there is no reference in it to the title Smash!

As for titles like Mindfighter TOSEC use the publisher not the developer so in this case Mindfighter (1988)(Activision) is the correct publisher.  You can check its correctness here http://hol.abime.net/2487/diskscan

Being realistic if there is a boxscan / diskscan / manual available for the games they have to be the first point of call when it comes to renaming a game.  The title screen can only be used as a last resort as some of them are so poor that they dont even have the year that the game was released on the title screen.  If TOSEC went with that then all games would be something like this Smash (198x)(-).

Fix the obvious ones already! :-*

Check the OPTIONS SCREEN, as I wrote.

What the game says would rather be the correct way to rename. If a disk says "created on 1989-02-21" you're obviously going to take that over a "© 1989" on the box.

Oh well, go on, just lots of facepalms here.

I'd say how the name was called on the market (box/disk) should be the correct way, also the box usually tell you the correct publisher, so I think it should be also the source for the game name if possible.
