Amiga File System
« on: February 14, 2011, 05:29:03 PM »
Hello,
about the compatibility of file systems on the Amiga (floppy only!):

On KS1.x :
OFS (All type) : Boot and readable
FFS : Noboot but readable with FastFileSystem mounted
FFS Int : unreadable
FFS DC : unreadable

On KS2.x:
OFS (All type) : Boot and readable
FFS : Boot and readable
FFS Int : Boot and readable
FFS DC : unreadable

On KS3.x:
OFS (All type) : Boot and readable
FFS : Boot and readable
FFS Int : Boot and readable
FFS DC : Boot and readable

I make a mistake somewhere?

I would like to extend the tag [KSx.x] to format of the disk ...

Lets wait for opinions of some guys with more knowledge in Amiga than i have. Afaik, "KS.x.x" is used as a more info flag to flag sets that only work (properly) with the named kickstart version (or higher?).

What is your idea? How would you use it and for what? :)

Hello PandMonium,

The KS1.x [A500 ...] can not read the contents of some disks (FFS Int/DC) when the files would work on KS1.x

Example for FFS international  [KS2.0 only]:
Code: [Select]
Fighting Warriors (19xx)(Ip, T.)(PD)[a2][AMOS].adf size 901120 crc 2acb137a
Extreme Violence v6.92 (1993)(Green, Simon)(SW)[AMOS].adf size 901120 crc fc7c0b6e
Dr. Mario (1994)(Trash)(PD)[a].adf size 901120 crc 4c71b8f8

and for FFS international DirCache [KS3.0 only]:
Code: [Select]
Alien Pong Trilogy v2 (1997)(Joker Developments)(Disk 2 of 2)[b][AMOS, Amiga Format Readers Games edition].adf size 901120 crc dac0cee2
Crazy Sue (1991)(Jumpshoe, Hironymous - Oakenshield, Thorin)(PD)[cr][f AGA Fix 95].adf size 901120 crc 4a6c5e82
Missing in Action (1993)(Terabyte).adf size 901120 crc cfc1feea

What is my idea?
Missing in Action (1993)(Terabyte)
=> Missing in Action (1993)(Terabyte)[KS3.0]

 ;D

Hey, as usual i don't quite understand it since i lack all the knowledge on amiga, will have to wait for others to comment.
btw, when pasting setnames in tnc you might want to use the [ code ] [ / code ] tags because some TNC flags will get parsed as bbcode ([ b] for example).

Indeed, probably it makes really sense to expand [more info] flag, like [KS2.0], [KS3.0].
If you have a disk with this flag in the filename, what does it mean?
Alien Hunter (1992)(Schatztruhe)(DE)[KS2.0] for example.
Is there really Kickstart 2.0 required for this game, i dont think so.
The actual disk needs KS2.0, but not the game itself, if you copy the content of this disk to a KS1.3 formated disk or exchange any c: command, the it runs also with KS1.3.
But currently i have no idea, how to seperate this.
