Datfile updates?
« on: October 17, 2009, 11:47:38 PM »
Good evening,

First off wanted to thank everyone who puts their time/energy/effort/money into this project... It's brilliant being able to play all the old games from my childhood again!  8)

I have a quick question however... Will there be any further updates to the existing datfiles for systems such as C64, NES, SNES?

I have been using the No-Intro dats for a majority of these systems as they are more up to date, and when verifying my ROMs against the older sets, a lot are missed out.

Any chance that the work completed on No-Intro can be integrated into the TOSEC dats?

I understand that it is a huge task to maintain these dat files, and that a lot of work is being put into the ISOs at the moment, but it would be nice to be able to just use TOSEC in CMP...

Any responses would be appreciated. Thanks!  :)

Hello there,
we are already working since a long time now to do a release, I can't tell you any date because it's not up to me to release it, our NES/SNES DAT is as far as I know a bit messed up and I don't know if anyone is working on it right now.
We are still fixing some errors in the database like wrong publisher or too many (19xx) dates also alot files got added, I just hope that we can release a good datpack soon.
Thank you for your feedback, it's nice to see such posts because it makes me want to work on the project even more. :)

Hi TKaos,

Thanks for your response :) It's good to know that you fine people are still working on the project behind the scenes.  8)

I'm happy to wait for the new dats to be released, just really looking forward to it! I must admit that I'm a bit of a ROM collecting fanatic! lol ;D

And thank you, I really do appreciate you and your group's efforts to get a proper accurate history of ROMs recorded, as I'm sure everyone else who uses them does. I can imagine it must be a true labour of love for you guys and gals!

Cheers!

Well it's a nice work, I personally like to get informations about cracking groups and their members and it's always nice to find a new group which isn't in our database yet.
Also I'm really after removing those ugly (19xx) filenames as much as (200x) since those shouldn't be there at all.

Hi Carl0s_H,

Welcome here and thanks for your interest in the project :)
We don't know for sure when there will be a release and i guess it is better to don't give a date or we will miss it again as usual, i can only guarantee you that we are working on it and the idea is getting one soon (i hope), about your questions, the project had some quiet times since 2007 but is awakening again now, our main objective currently (at least the non iso part) is to reorganize it a bit more and try to do our job better and not only making it grow (like happened long ago), thats what TKaos said, i don't mean there aren't new sets added but its not my primary goal.
Nintendo dats are maintained by Cassiel but i'm not sure on what he is doing / or has done in the ones you said, but they have changed, even if only name fixes for now :P

Thats it, hope you keep following us and we can release something one of these days, stay tuned :P

Hi Carl0s_H, as the guys have said I currently maintain the Nintendo DATs. Because of (A LOT) of internal re-mediation of existing DATs atm (as well my primary focus on the Sega DATs I also maintain) I have to admit some of the Nintendo DATs haven't grown as much as I'd like recently. Once we have a more solid base though, I expect to expand these significantly. Big things are coming, I promise    :)
