Happy Birthday TOSEC!

I am proud to announce that today is the TOSEC project's 12th birthday!

For over a decade we have been dedicated to the cataloging and preservation of software, firmware and resources for microcomputers, minicomputers and video game consoles.

As of release 2011-12-29, TOSEC catalogs over 200 unique computing platforms and continues to grow. As of this time the project has identified and cataloged 433,460 different software images/sets, consisting of over 3.16TB of software, firmware and resources.

We've come along way in 12 years, but that's nothing compared to what we have planned for the next 12. Now let the cake cutting begin!

ClrMamePro v4.x

The new 4.x series of ClrMamePro has recently been released.

Among the many improvements this new release includes, the big headline change is that CMP is now fully Unicode compliant with full support for UTF8 characters in file/folder names, files within archives and datfiles.

All TOSEC DAT users are strongly advised to update to the latest version of CMP if not already done so.

Further details can be found here: http://mamedev.emulab.it/clrmamepro/

TNC Update (2011-08-27)

The TOSEC Naming Convention (TNC) has been updated.

These corrections were mainly to add more info and examples, as well as clarify some recent 'date' issues. See below for full details:

Revision 3 (27/08/2011) changes:
- Introduction rewritten to be consistent with TOSEC website and Wiki page.
- Forbidden Characters section revised.
- References to "ZZZ-UNK-" rewritten to make it clear 'unknowns' should always be avoided (as well as a return to the more strict convention of "ZZZ-UNK-" rather than "ZZZ-UNK").
- Expanded examples in Version section.
- Expanded and gave proper descriptions to possible flags in Demo section.
- Year renamed to Date to better reflect the flag usage.
- Examples expanded in Date section, including making it clear '2000-01-0x' is an acceptable date.
- Added proper descriptions to Development Status Flag possibilities.
- Added proper descriptions to Media Type Flag possibilities.
- Dump Flags section greatly expanded to more accurately describe the purpose of each flag, as well as adding more examples and clarifications.
- Current Issues appendix moved to separate document since inappropriate to include in a published spec.
- Lots of general cleaning up and improvements to general language, punctuation and grammar.
